Cleaner jet fuel

The huge increase in traffic in Orlando and the more modest increase globally have not been cost-free. In particular, aviation externalities have risen with traffic volumes. The air transport sector accounts for about 3.5 percent of anthropogenic climate change, but its share is expected to climb towards mid-century. Aviation is heavily dependent on fossil fuels and is likely to remain so after other modes have transitioned to more environmentally friendly fuel sources. Some airlines have experimented with biofuels, but their impact remains marginal so far. Between 2011 and 2019, about 175,000 flights were partly powered by biofuels, but in 2019 more than 100,000 flights per day were powered solely by conventional fuels. A landmark was reached in 2021, when a test flight between Chicago and Washington DC ran exclusively on biofuels.

Battery-electric aircraft are another avenue to ease the sector’s global climate change impacts. Air taxis using this technology are expected to launch as soon as 2024, but the aircraft being developed are small, both in their capacity (about five passengers) and range (about 250 kilometers). Airships, which might be suitable for freight transportation in remote areas, comprise still another area of innovation.

The aviation sector accounts for 2.5% of global CO2 emissions, which are expected to rise rapidly with the Department of Energy projecting jet fuel use will double in 30 years. Airlines increasingly realize that their long-term survival depends on seriously tackling climate change, just as safety is a prerequisite to operate.

DHL Express, part of Deutsche Post DHL Group, announced a new partnership with Nestle to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at the carrier’s hub at East Midlands Airport in the U.K.

Kuehne + Nagel, the world’s largest airfreight forwarder, said it will offer customers the option to purchase SAF for each shipment if they want to minimize the environmental impact. Other logistics companies have limited SAF substitution programs on specific routes, but Kuehne + Nagel’s product is comprehensive. And Air Canada (OTCUS: ACDVF) said it will work with Carbon Engineering Ltd. to identify potential opportunities for direct capture of carbon from jet engines and how it can be removed from the atmosphere or turned into SAF.

The industry views SAF as the best near-term solution to achieving new targets, along with operational improvements and infrastructure, as it develops electric and hydrogen propulsion technology for clean aircraft of the future.

SAF can be produced from waste oil and fats, green and municipal waste, nonfood crops, or carbon capture.

Howdy just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your post seem to be running off
the screen in Safari. I’m not sure if this is a formatting
issue or something to do with browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know.
The layout look great though! Hope you get the problem fixed
    soon. Kudos
